Who We Are

Our Story

G.E. Mecherle, the son of State Farm founder, G.J. Mecherle, helped establish the Credit Union in 1936 as a benefit for employees and associates. As the Director of Personnel, he wanted to help employees save more of their hard-earned money by offering savings and loan products with competitive rates.

He realized financial decisions have a personal side, too. It’s not a savings account, it’s your child’s education fund. It’s not a vehicle loan;
it’s dependable and safe transportation for you and your family.

Mr. Mecherle’s philosophy of addressing the personal aspects of saving money through great rates on savings and loans remains as true today as when he
began the Credit Union more than 85 years ago.

“EVERY experience I have ever had with SFFCU over the decades has been great.   The superb experiences start with the CU personnel.  First of all, each rep I have ever spoken with seems to CARE – about his/her position, about the CU, and about the depositor/borrower.  This is so very apparent during each and every phone call.  I always feel as though I am the CU’s favorite and most important client!!!”

“When I was hired into Claims, long ago, I took the advice of those training me and joined the Credit Union.  Those folks have always been there for me and my family.  I have worked with some pretty good banks and bankers, but no one took the interest and time with me that the Credit Union people did.  Even when the formats changed, the service and attitudes never did.  I value that relationship.”
